This was the first book I had read by this author and I have to say I was impressed.I loved the story line because not only are there shifters,which is one of my favorites but there are the government conspirasies and it also has other paranormals like elves which in this first part of this series we don't know if they are good guys or bad guys.This is a series and it does have a cliff hanger at the end but luckily the next book in the series will be coming out by the end of October.It will be hard to wait because the story sucked me right in,but I will be getting it the day it comes out as Im dying to know what happens next.The story has a lot of angles because you have the story of the shifters,but there is also the love story between our hero Chay and Tara which is steamy hot to say the least,but that is how I like my books so that definetly satisfied.I would recommend this book to anyone who asked and have told my friends to get it they will not be disappointed(except for the waiting part of course lol) In fact I liked the story and could not put it down till I finished it so I went to her page on Amazon and got both of her other series,The Alpha Captive and The Blood of Life-Cora's story and plan to read both all the way thru over the weekend.Luckily I think these series are already completed and by the time I finish them,book 2 of Out of the Darkness will be out Yeah!! This author has now become one of my favorite authors and thats just from reading the first story in a series,I have no doubt the rest of the series will be just as good. I received an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.
To say that this book was good is an understatement. It is the story of a young college student who goes through her first shifter change. The storyline surrounding this event is unique. I loved the depth and all of the different shifter types, as well as the paranormal involved. I love to read anything that V. M. Black writes because I know I am going to get a great story.
I am really looking forward to part 2 to see what happens to these characters. I am truly vested in this story!
Tara Morland is a twenty-four year old college student who shifts into a black panther for the first time while in class. Chay Bane, a military created black panther, rescues Tara from a military facility. From the very beginning there is a connection between Chay and Tara. An electrical charge that neither can ignore. How could someone or some organization inject Tara Morland with the shifter infection? Or was being a shifter always in her blood? How will she learn to control her black panther? For the answers, start with Out of Darkness #1, in the Taken by the Panther serial. The episode is a nonstop read that will hook you from the first page.
Wau...She done it again. V.M Black is my favorite writer, i loved her series specialy The Alpha's Captive, and i still hope for some next part of that series.But she goth me in this one too, i could not put it down.
This book starst where the Alpa Captive ends, but it is all new packet.

Beane the panther shifter saves Tara who is a new shifter too, and because he is rescuing ang helping all "human" which are made or born shifters.
But she is something special and he is getting hook up whit her. He really want to rescue her, but only time will show, what will happen with her.
I read A LOT of shifter books or as my friends and I refer to it "shifter crack". I get disappointed when they all blend together. VM is a new author that I found in one of my Facebook groups and my fellow shifter crack lovers told me she was one author I needed to read pronto. Well they were sooooo right. I got stuck in this book. Could not put it down. It's written so different than a lot of other shifter books. The characters just felt real and I really can't put my finger on why, they just do. VM just has a way with her writing that makes you feel like your part of the characters conversation. Anyway, now that I'm done fangirling, the cliff hanger killed me! I need the next book ASAP. If you are a fan of the shifter genre this book needs to be on your TBR. Again, I read a lot of them. This is a good one!
I really, really enjoyed this read! The idea of three types of shifters is intriguing (those born, those who chose, and the unwilling). The story itself is easy to follow and the characters are real and likeable. As the first book of a series, it gives just enough information about the main characters to move the story along, and leave just enough information out to keep the reader hooked and waiting impatiently for the next installment. Why would Charles III volunteer for such a project? Who deliberately "infected" Tara? What are some of the things Chay has done since he was changed, and does anything haunt him? Is Tara going to be able to control herself, and how much more will she have to deal with whille she learns that control. Love scenes are steamy and well written. I really can't wait for the next book!
Black panthers! Sexy elves! Genetic experimentation! Uber cliffhangers! Asian fox-shifters! And of course, Chay. Ugh. I'll be his bae girl anyday of the week. Our story begins when our lovely curvy heroine undergoes a frightening change during her class -- and does something unspeakable. And she's turning into a monster. Until Shay prowls in a knight as on a blank panther, or rather who IS a black panther. What makes this story so heartbreakingly awesome is that Chay has never had the chance to love anyone, but his bae girl his his PERFECT mate. Unfortunately she's being eaten alive from the inside (NOT LITERALLY FOLKS) by a terrible monster that's itching to go it out. But oh my goodness, when the monster comes out, yes there is violence, but there is also soul-scorching heat -- and a devlish cliffhanger. *shakes fist* CUUUUURSEEEE YOUUUUU VMMMMMMM.
Oh and did I mention there were elves!!!!!
